I took this photo of my niece last Christmas as she slept soundly in my childhood bedroom in the bed that I used to sleep in.  The room looks a little different,  but I’ve been thinking about this photo for awhile after hearing a song by Hem called “Half Acre”.

I am holding half an acre

Torn from the map of Michigan

And folded in this scrap of paper

Is a land I grew in

Think of every town you’ve lived in

And what is it that you remember?

Do you carry every sadness with you?

Every hour your heart was broken

Every night the fear and darkness

Lay down with you……..

But I am holding half an acre

Torn from the map of Michigan

I am carrying this scrap of paper

That can crack the darkest sky wide open

Every burden taken from me

Every night my heart unfolding

My home

That room and bed was where I held every hope for my future and my dreams.  With my legs pointed westward and my head in the clouds, I always hoped

to live out West.  Following your dreams out of your bed and into reality is a much harder task.  Thank you sweet JuJu for

keeping my bed warm and looking over our “Half Acre”.  I hope that head and that room are filled with just as many of your dreams.
